Every Escape Xperience has its own story, puzzles and a mission that leads you through the city.

What you'll do

Het Verborgen Schilderij begins after the death of the famous Utrecht painter Jan van Scorel. His eldest son Peter finds a cryptic letter that was only to be opened after his father’s death. Peter has long suspected that Pope Adrianus, a close friend of Jan van Scorel, did not die of natural causes. The letter may finally offer a chance to discover what really happened.

Using the cryptic letter as your starting point, you investigate independently through Utrecht. The app leads you past well-known and lesser-known places around the city and gives you riddles and puzzles that gradually unravel the mystery. You will need more than the clues on your phone: sometimes the key is hidden in a place or detail around you. As you explore Utrecht, you work step by step towards discovering what Jan van Scorel knew.
